TRANSPORTATION BENCHMARKING AND INFORMATION SERVICE; Function 34
(For 2010, this service is only available to Texas Districts)
This service meets a basic need for any K-12 district that transports children in today’s world. It will provide information on topics from compliance to efficiency to key operational and cost benchmarking data. Benchmark4Excellence (www.Benchmark4Excellence.org) and Innovative Transportation Solutions (www.itranssolutions.org) (A Region 4 ESC Center of Excellence) have teamed up to make this service available.

The benchmarking component of the service was successfully piloted in the summer of 2009. A current study of 2008-2009 data is underway with a number of large districts throughout the State of Texas participating. Members of this program include; Aldine ISD, Arlington ISD, Barbers Hill ISD, Conroe ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Duncanville ISD, Hutto ISD, Klein ISD, Leander ISD and Rockwall ISD.
Expenses in the study group varied by over $1.00 per mile and identified multiple areas of opportunity for the participants. Transportation expenses can add up quickly when you consider that a typical district travels 100 miles per year for each enrolled student and is only reimbursed by the State 30 to 40 cents for every dollar they actually spend. Learning how to trim a few pennies per mile off your expenses can add to significant dollars for your district.
Districts can start signing up for the next phase of this program on July 1st, 2010.
Data for the 2009-2010 school year needs to be submitted by November 19th, 2010.
Reports will be available at the User Conference in February of 2011.
